Xicana Boxing started as an idea; A vision to keep real journalism alive while bringing the latest boxing coverage with a refreshing and genuine twist through various platforms for the boxing enthusiast's indulgement. A boxing fan since birth growing up in a rural town in Nayarit, Mexico, I was exposed to legendary Mexican Champions at a very early age. I'd sit in front of the old television with pan dulce in hand and watch Mexican boxing stars like Ricardo “Finito” Lopez, Jorge “Travieso” Arce, Oscar De La Hoya, Jorge “El Maromero” Paez, Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez, Erik “Terrible” Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, and of course, Julio César Chávez Sr. In 2001, my family migrated to the U.S. where world boxing became more accessible, and I learned non-Mexican boxing names more than just Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao, Felix “Tito” Trinidad and Miguel Cotto. With every fight, every swing, every uppercut, jab, power punch landed, I became enamored with the sport of boxing. With the help of the internet and online social platforms, I was able to expand my boxing knowledge, gain perspective and engage in boxing discussions as part of my daily life.
Fast forward to the present, Xicana Boxing is now a reality providing a platform for others to expand their knowledge and keep up with breaking boxing news and spectacles. With every boxing gym visit and every fight witnessed ringside, Xicana Boxing will take you there through descriptive and accurate writing as well as through a camera lens with intriguing interviews for your viewing pleasure. Xicana Boxing is here to remind everyone that Boxing isn’t dead.
